At the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering TU Wien is offering the following tenure track position for 40 hours/week. Expected start: October 2026. The position is initially limited to a period of six years, but the candidate and TU Wien can agree upon a tenure evaluation, which when positive, opens the possibility to change the position to Associate Professor with an unlimited contract. The tenure-track position is affiliated to the Center of Digital Fabrication of Structures and Systems at the Faculty of Civil Engineering. Duties include research and teaching in the field of Digital Fabrication of Structures and Systems. The construction sector is facing major challenges: low productivity growth, increasing demands for sustainability, and a growing need for innovation. Digital fabrication offers new opportunities to fundamentally transform planning and production processes and to enable resource-efficient construction methods. In this context, digital fabrication is considered a key driver of innovation, enabling the development of new design and production paradigms and actively supporting the transformation of the construction industry. TU Wien therefore aims to strategically expand this forward-looking research field and to strengthen its international visibility. The advertised tenure-track position is embedded in the newly established Center for Digital Fabrication of Structures and Systems. The center serves as a joint platform for the faculty-wide research focus "Digital Fabrication in Construction" and brings together the expertise of several research groups, with a focus on additive manufacturing as well as human-robot collaboration and design for assembly and disassembly. As a core infrastructure, a new laboratory equipped with state-of-the-art industrial robotics is currently being established. We are seeking researchers with proven expertise in structural engineering and experience at the interface of digital design and automated fabrication. In research, the successful candidate is expected to develop an independent and internationally recognized profile in digital fabrication, pursuing an integrated approach that links design, structural engineering, and manufacturing. Particular emphasis should be placed on innovative approaches for developing resource-efficient and circular structures and systems, making use of existing research infrastructures and in close collaboration with the participating research groups of the faculty. In teaching, the position involves contributing to the faculty's study programs, particularly in structural engineering, as well as developing new teaching formats in the field of digital fabrication. Active supervision of students and early-career researchers is expected. The position also includes the scientific and organizational leadership of the center. This comprises the strategic development of research activities, acquisition of third-party funding, establishment of national and international collaborations, further development of research infrastructure, and the positioning of the center as a visible platform in the international research landscape. Tasks: Research: Innovative ideas in structural engineering A holistic approach to digital fabrication, from planning to production, in collaboration with the research areas involved in the center Testing novel structures and systems for functionality Further development of the field of digital fabrication in construction Internationally competitive research in the field of digital fabrication Development of an internationally visible profile in the field of digital fabrication in construction Teaching: In terms of teaching, it is envisaged that the tenure track position will be used to further develop and deliver teaching in the field of digital fabrication and robotics. In addition, these topics are to be supervised in final thesis.
