What you can expect
As a Senior HVAC Engineer, you are responsible for the overall leadership and organization of the integrated design process up to the implementation on site in the specialist area of HVAC.
Key Responsibilities
- Team Leadership: Manage and mentor Engineering Team Leads, focusing on their motivation, management skills, performance, objectives, and career paths.
- Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC): Oversee and execute the SDLC and Product Iterations (PIs) for all engineering teams in collaboration with the Product Management team.
- Collaboration and Communication: Ensure effective collaboration across engineering teams and with other company functions, and act as an intermediary between engineering teams and executive management.
- Strategic Planning: Assist the CTO with strategic planning, technical leadership, and executive reporting.
- Mergers and Acquisitions: Participate in due diligence and company integration work in mergers and acquisitions.
Day-to-Day Tasks
- Product Iteration Execution: Oversee the execution of Product Iterations (PIs) across teams.
- Team Meetings: Participate in team meetings and SDLC-related ceremonies on demand.
- Status Reports: Keep track of weekly status reports from engineering teams and facilitate discussions around important points in the engineering meeting.
- Engineering Updates: Communicate the most important engineering updates to the executive team.
People Management
- Regular 1-on-1s: Maintain regular 1-on-1s with engineering team leads, discussing both individual and team topics.
- Performance Evaluations: Carry out performance evaluations of team leads and ensure adoption of the performance review process in accordance with the career framework across the engineering organization.
- Personal Objectives: Set personal objectives for every team lead.
- Vacation Approvals: Manage vacation approvals, sick leave, conference days, and similar for team leads.
- Engineering Documentation: Prepare high-level engineering documentation and policies for review by CTO.
- Feedback and Improvement: Give feedback on engineering workflows, policies, and efforts.
- Weekly Engineering Meeting: Lead the weekly engineering meeting.
Collaboration with Other Parties
- Regular 1-on-1s: Maintain regular 1-on-1s with CTO and COO.
- Executive Meetings: Participate in executive meetings and other executive group activities on demand.
- Product and HR Collaboration: Coordinate with Product and HR.
- Sales and Support: Represent engineering in high-value sales calls, quarterly business reviews, and escalated support cases.
- Sales Enablement: Help with sales enablement and related training.
Hiring and Onboarding
- Onboarding Expectations: Prepare onboarding expectations for team leads.
- New Team Lead Onboarding: Onboard new team leads, pairing with team members for those unfamiliar with the technical domain.
- Job Specifications: Draft job specifications for management positions.
- Hiring Efforts: Participate in late-stage interviews for various positions or lead hiring efforts for management positions.
About You
We're seeking a seasoned software engineering leader with:
- Multiple Years of Experience: Multiple years of experience leading software engineering teams and/or middle managers in different organizations.
- Strong Technical Background: A strong technical background, with experience with developer tools and backend technologies.
- Coordination and Communication Skills: Strong coordination and communication skills to coordinate work and share information effectively among different groups and stakeholders.
- Feedback and Improvement: A willingness to receive and provide feedback, including constructive criticism in pursuit of our core values and a culture of high performance.
- Business Sense: A good business sense to participate in strategic discussions and prioritize high-impact projects.
